Device Recycling
Computers, smartphones, televisions and home appliances are dismantled and processed with advanced methods.
Not every device is built the same way, so it can’t be recycled the same way either. A laptop, a washing machine and a fluorescent tube each need different handling — which is exactly why India’s rules classify equipment into categories rather than treating “e-waste” as one thing.
Schedule I of the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 lists 106 specific categories of electrical and electronic equipment — expanded from the 2016 Rules.
Categories span IT and telecom equipment, consumer electronics, large and small household appliances, electrical tools, toys, and medical devices and lab instruments (excluding implants).
The Rules apply across the full lifecycle for each category — manufacturer, producer, refurbisher, dismantler and recycler alike — so category-specific handling is a regulatory requirement, not just good practice.
